Jordan Belchos On Canadian Long Track Speed Skating Team

Jordan Belchos has come (and gone) a long way since his days of skating with us at the Scooter’s Indoor Speed Club.

Speed Skating Canada recently named Belchos to its fall World Cup Long Track Speed Skating roster. He will represent Canada in Holland and Russia. Read the article here: Speed Skating Canada Names Long Track Fall World Cup Teams.

What this means is that Jordan, who now resides in Calgary, will be vying for a spot on Canada’s long track speed skating team at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. And to think that he started his career with us as a junior skater! 🙂 Way to go JB!

Many athletes were pre-qualified to skate in the World Cups, based on their results in national and international competitions over the last season. Others qualified by posting the fastest times in a series of time trial races in Richmond that also served as testing grounds for the various speed skating systems that will be in place for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Jordan Belchos started his speed skating career as a youngster with the Scooter’s Indoor Speed Club. The club helped him train for ice hockey and helped him gain technique and strength required for his eventual switch to racing on the ice. Belchos finished 4th overall at the 2007 and 2008 World Junior Long Track Speed Skating Championships.
